The Tamiya 1/700 scale representation of the IJN DD Akatsuki recreates the lead ship of the Type III "Special Type" destroyers as launched in 1932. Recognisable by its narrower fore funnel and enlarged bridge, the Akatsuki saw action from the Aleutians campaign to the fighting around Guadalcanal, where it was lost in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. This kit focuses on the vessel's initial appearance, letting modelers study its early design traits.
This Tamiya kit offers finely moulded external detail, several separate gun fittings and a small metal flotation piece to assist balance and realism. Waterslide decals and pictorial assembly instructions guide the build from start to finish. When assembled, the Akatsuki model reaches 157mm in length, making it a compact but striking piece for any naval shelf or diorama.
