Development of the V-75 Dvina environment defence missile system, designated SA-2 `Guideline' by NATO, were only obtainable in 1953 as a medium to high SAM system to be utilized against non-manoeuvring objectives particularly bombers. The device became practical in 1957 whenever PVO-Strany formed SA-2 missile regiments of three six train launcher battalions, with at initial deployments nearby the town of Sverdiovsk. On 1 might 1960 the Sverdiovsk services and products fired a total of 14 SA-2 missiles against a Lockheed U-2 practically nothing reconnaissance aircraft flown by Gary Powers. The SA-2 is a two stage missile with a big solid propellant jettisonable tandem booster phase fitted with four large clipped delta stabilising fins. Towards the mid-section the missile are four clipped delta-shaped wings with another handful of little fixed fins on nose and a third in-line pair of specially bigger moving control fins by the ultimate outcome. The SA-2A/B/C models might distinguished by both sets of four, flush dielectric strip antennas within the front part and behind the forward fins.
