The Trumpeter 05742 reproduces the heavy cruiser USS New Orleans CA-32 at 1:700 scale in her 1942 fit, supplied so modelers can build either a waterline display or a full-hull ship. Parts are arranged to support accurate exterior detailing and finishing for shelf or diorama presentation.
The New Orleans class was the final group of interwar "Treaty" heavy cruisers completed between World War I and World War II. Members of the class shared similar profiles and displaced about 10,136 tons standard and about 12,436 tons full load during wartime as additional radar, electronics, and anti-aircraft weapons were fitted. These cruisers served extensively in the Pacific campaign, taking part in multiple engagements with several ships remaining active after 1942.
Construction emphasizes external realism and display flexibility. The kit contains separate upper and lower hull components plus a dedicated waterline plate so builders may choose presentation style. Masts, superstructure parts, and small fittings are supplied as injection-molded plastic across multiple sprues. Decals reproduce the MS21 camouflage carried in 1942. Clear build instructions and sprue maps are included to aid accurate assembly and painting.
Designed for collectors and display-focused modellers, the kit balances external detail with straightforward assembly and a clear waterline versus full-hull choice.
